Indiana farmland values hold steady as buyer demand remains strong

An Indiana-based ag realtor says strong demand for farm land has helped stabilize values across the state.

Johnny Klemme is the co-owner of Geswein Farm and Land. 

“In your more rural locations, it’s being driven by soil quality, drainage, and access to markets,” he says. “When you get the right people in the room with those kinds of pressures, it really creates significant competition.”

He tells Brownfield the demand for quality farmland continues to increase.

“You really have to look at a region and you have to look at each county,” he says. “One corner of the county can sell significantly different than on the opposite end.”

Klemme says he expects land values to decrease slightly in some areas of the state throughout the rest of the year.

The latest Purdue Farmland Values and Cash Rent Survey showed the average price of top-quality ag land reached $14,909 per acre, up 0.6 percent from 2025.
