Harvest pace picks up throughout southwest Indiana

A southwest Indiana farmer says excess moisture throughout the growing season has had an impact on the 2026 crop.

Ben Kron says corn and soybean yields are variable.

“What is there has been really good,” he says. “There’s been a lot of drowned out areas. There’s some really good corn and there’s some places where there’s just nothing there.”

He tells Brownfield recent above-average temperatures have helped the crop dry down quickly.

“It was ready about a week sooner than we thought it was going to be,” he says. “All of the rain kind of seems to be going north and south of us. Things are moving along pretty fast.”

According to the latest USDA crop progress and conditions report, Indiana corn is 95 percent dented, 62 percent mature, 13 percent harvested, and rated 61 percent good to excellent. Soybeans are 74 percent dropping leaves, 14 percent harvested, and rated 62 percent good to excellent.
