ICA prioritizes favorable tax climate, opposes eminent domain in Iowa Legislature

The Iowa Cattlemen’s Association is focused on several issues this legislative session.

Kelli Klink is the director of government relations and public policy.

“Some of the big key ones will be looking at a favorable tax environment for our producers. We know that the property tax discussion will be a large part of the conversation, so we want to make sure that agriculture is represented well. And making sure that we are able to have longevity in our industry through the favorable tax environment.”

She tells Brownfield ICA is seeking a reduction or elimination of the fruit and forest tree tax exemption.

“That’s something that places a disproportionate burden on landowners when we talk about the acres that are enrolled in a program like that. Additionally, private property rights are going to be a big focus for us.”

Klink says ICA members are in opposition to eminent domain for private use.
