Indiana Pork expands disease prevention efforts as part of its Swine Health Advisory Committee

The director of producer education for Indiana Pork says protecting the health of the U.S. swine herd remains a top priority for producers in 2027.

Stacy Herr, director of producer education, says disease prevention isn’t a one-size fits all approach.

“PEDV virus and PRRS virus have significant impacts on production,” she says. “What would it look like to have PEDV elimination in Indiana? Is it a possibility and is it something that producers in our state feel would have a return on investment?”

She tells Brownfield the organization recently formalized its Swine Health Advisory Committee to help strengthen biosecurity across the state.

“It starts with an effort that the entire industry can support,” she says. “As we have unique needs within the state, we’re starting to have conversations around what needs to be done to address them.”

The National Pork Board, National Pork Producers Council (NPPC) and state associations developed the overarching National Swine Health Strategy to help safeguard the industry against foreign animal diseases.
