Harvest activity has picked up steam in Iowa this week.

Iowa City farmer Jay Buline tells Brownfield his corn crop has been a pleasant surprise.

“In southeast Iowa we’re seeing some record corn crops right now which is crazy,” Buline said. “But coming off last year’s disease issues we need the extra boost this year.”

He says soybean conditions in his area have also been favorable.

“The beans are actually right where they need to be at 12 to 13 percent,” Buline said. “We’re having some record soybean crops as well, so we’re happy to see that.

Story City farmer Zach Twedt says his 2026 harvest didn’t get started until Tuesday due to the wet start to fall.

“It’s going to be interesting with some of the different variables that come into play with farming, weather being one of the main ones,” Twedt said. “Why farmers can continue to do it is because of their resiliency.”

Twedt says he is feeling optimistic about this year’s crop but more will be known once they get further into fields.
