Minnesota farmer works to get fall cover crops seeded as harvest approaches

A southwest Minnesota farmer is making progress seeding fall cover crops.

Bryan Biegler is a strip-till corn and soybean grower from Lake Wilson.

“A lot of our covers have been done (and) seeded already, probably going to have a little bit more to get done yet. Do have some rye that I grow for grain, so as soon as I get a field of soybeans taken off, I’ve got a couple earlier varieties and we’ll get in and start seeding rye into those.”

He tells Brownfield harvest is fast approaching.

“Then the strip-till, typically I like to as soon as we start getting into soybean harvest get a field or two off try to get the strip-till bar going right behind it. Try to get done for the season, keep it up. You never know when the ground is going to freeze or it gets wet or something like that, so try to keep going as soon as we can.”

Biegler says the cover crops that are already seeded were applied by drone or plane.
