New CHS Wisconsin soy plant brings optimism

The president of the Wisconsin Soybean Association says the announced construction of a new CHS soy processing plant in the south-central part of the state is exciting for growers across the region.
Doug Rebout, who farms in Rock County where the plant will be located, tells Brownfield, “I think it’s going to do great for the basis.” He says, “They’re going to be crushing between 70 and 80 million bushels a year once they get this crush plant up and going. When you’re crushing that many bushels, it’s going to help the whole Midwest.”
He says the added soybean demand could lead to some operational changes on his farm in the future.
“Once it’s up and going and we kind of see what the market prices are doing, we might start planting a little bit more soybeans, but I don’t see a big change in it unless the prices really dictate it,” he says.
CHS officials previously told Brownfield that the Evansville facility is expected to be operational by the fall of 2028. It’s expected to employ around 80 people and produce approximately one billion pounds of soybean oil and two million tons of soymeal annually.
