‘Perfect Sundays’ explores farmer suicide, family and healing on dairy farm

Farmer suicide and mental health are the focus of a new six-part limited television series. 

Sam Goldberg is the creator and producer of Perfect Sundays.

“Perfect Sundays is about a family grappling with the recent suicide of their patriarch, but they’re picking up the pieces and they’re trying to rescue the farm by turning it into an ice cream business.”

Speaking to Brownfield at the Farm Progress Show near Boone, Iowa Thursday, he said the show is fictional but very authentic.

“We interviewed 75 people from mental health advisors to dairy farmers to grain farmers to ice cream entrepreneurs.”

Goldberg says the series begins two years after the patriarch of the family dies by suicide.

“And they are trying to pick up the pieces and communicate past it, and the goal that the widow Marla has is to bring back what they called ‘perfect Sundays.’ Which was an ice cream sunday from the milk on their farm on Sunday after church.”
