Soybean market offers opportunity and potential

Taking advantage of marketing opportunities.
Matt Bennett, co-founder of AgMarket.net and an Illinois farmer, says recent gains in the soybean market shouldn’t be overlooked.
“Three weeks ago, you would have swore that you’d sell beans at $11 or better.” He says, “Now you’ve got the opportunity, so if you don’t take that opportunity, it’s on you. If my profitability was in the red three weeks ago, and now it’s in the black. To me, that’s got to help you make a decision.”
However, he tells Brownfield there’s still potential for upward movement.
“I don’t mind holding on to some because with there being such low farmer ownership, that’s when big rallies occur.” He says, “By all means I’m selling, don’t get me wrong, it’s just that would I sell them all? I’d probably hold on to some gambling bushels.”

South Dakota farmer Chad Blindhauer says the current ag economy means many farmers are more dialed into marketing than ever before.
“We all know what our break-evens are, and we market as needed.” He says, “And so, you’ve got to be ready to take advantage of those little rallies.”
Brownfield spoke with both at the 2026 Commodity Classic in San Antonio.
