Strong yields highlight northeast Nebraska soybean harvest
A northeast Nebraska farmer says he’s harvesting the best soybean crop he’s ever raised.
“We’ve seen from mid 70s to over 80 (bushels per acre.)”
Michael Stanek says despite a few weather setbacks, he says it’s been an incredible start. “Evidently the beans liked the growing season and the late rains that we received.”
He tells Brownfield disease pressure was low. “We did have a little bit of sudden death syndrome, but I was more concerned about white mold, but we didn’t have it in our fields as severe as I thought we would. We had some gal midge and dectes stem borer.”
As for corn harvest, Stanek says he expects that to get underway in about a week.“I think there is going to be a lot of variability in our fields depending on where we are at. You don’t have to go a mile between rain events and there were big differences in the amount of rain we received.”
He says he’s cautiously optimistic about yields and says reports of silage appraisals and wet corn have been above average.
