Thompson visits Missouri; farm bill negotiations continue ahead of lame-duck session

House Ag Committee Chairman Glenn “GT” Thompson told farmers in northern Missouri late last week the U.S. House and Senate Ag Committees have been working out the details of the farm bill.
Marc Zell, who farms in Linn County, was one of about 40 farmers in attendance.
“They’re hoping to get the farm bill finished up without too many changes to the House version of the farm bill,” says Zell. “There was still some discussion over the nutrition part of the bill.”
Missouri Soybean Association CEO Casey Wasser also attended the event, and tells Brownfield Thompson was optimistic about year-round E15.
“The House passed a standalone version of that legislation that has now been wrapped into the Senate’s version of a farm bill. He was very positive around those aspects and he does feel confident they’ll get something done.”
Last week’s Ag Forum was a campaign stop for Missouri 6th District candidate Chris Stigall.
Congress is in recess until after the November elections, with farm bill expected to get more attention in the lame-duck session.
