U.S. turkey numbers up on year

The U.S. is expected to raise more turkeys in 2026 than in 2025. That’s in-line with hatchery data and projections for rising production as the industry tries to meet demand.

The USDA says 198.5 million turkeys will be raised in the U.S. this year, 3% more than last year, with only a couple of the major production states seeing a decline in numbers.

The top turkey state is Minnesota, followed by North Carolina and Arkansas.

The USDA’s next look at annual turkey production will be out October 9^th.

Indiana: 20 million head, unchanged from 2025

Iowa: 11.5 million head, up 6% from 2025

Michigan: 4.5 million head, up 5% from 2025

Missouri: 16 million head, up 9% from 2025

Ohio: 6.3 million head, up 2% from 2025

South Dakota: 1.9 million head, up 6% from 2025
