USDA projects larger winter wheat crop
2025 U.S. winter wheat production is expected to be up 2% from 2024.
The USDA currently has the crop at 1.382 billion bushels, with a year-to-year improvement in yield to 53.7 bushels per acre expected to cancel out a slight decline in harvested area to 25.718 million acres.
That total includes a 2% gain for hard red winter wheat at 784.268 million bushels, a 1% increase for soft red winter to 344.673 million bushels, and a 7% rise for white winter wheat at a combined 252.669 million bushels.
In 2024, winter wheat production was 1.349 billion bushels with an average yield of 51.7 bushels per acre and harvested area of 26.103 million acres. By class, 2024 hard red winter production was 770.439 million bushels, with soft red winter at 342.439 million and white winter at 236.052 million bushels.
The USDA’s national winter wheat crop condition rating is above a year ago and early development is ahead of the five-year average.
The USDA’s next round of production projections are out June 12th.
