87% of soybeans planted

With corn planting now pretty much wrapped up, the focus turns to soybeans. As of Sunday, USDA reports that 87% of soybeans have been planted, ahead of the year ago pace of 83%, but behind the five year average of 92% with the biggest delays in wet portions of the Delta and Eastern Corn Belt. 72% of beans have emerged, also ahead of last year but slower than average, and in the first rating of the season, 66% of soybeans are in good to excellent condition.

95% of corn has emerged, compared to 98% on average, with Illinois and Indiana both behind their respective average paces. 70% of corn is in good to excellent shape, up 1% from last week.

93% of spring wheat has emerged, a little slower than normal because of the slow planting pace. Still, 75% of the crop is rated good to excellent, a 2% improvement from last week and 8% better than a year ago.

9% of the winter wheat crop is harvested with rain and disease issues slowing activity in many areas. A year ago at this time 16% had been harvested and the five year average is 19%. 44% of winter wheat is in good to excellent condition, unchanged from last week.

60% of U.S. pastures and range lands are in good to excellent condition, up 1% from a week ago.
