Over 100 scientists sign biodiesel declaration

The National Biodiesel Board says more than 100 scientists have gone on the record since February in support of biodiesel by signing the “Scientists For Biodiesel” declaration. Two university Deans are among them: University of Missouri School of Agriculture Dean – Thomas Payne, and, Iowa State University Dean of the College of Agriculture – Wendy Wintersteen.NBB’s CEO Joe Jobe says the show of support from the scientific community comes at a “critical juncture” as details of the Renewable Fuels Standard implementation and the future of the biodiesel tax incentive “remains uncertain.”

The declaration released in February by Dr. Rob Meyers, director of the Thomas Jefferson Agricultural Institute and Roger Beachy, president of the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center, both in Missouri. It spells out biodiesel’s “sustainability and its benefits to reduce dependence on petroleum, help address climate change and boost domestic economies” while calling for more investment into scientific research of biodiesel.
