Family prepares for harvest season

Mike Lonergan, VP, Jacksonville Farm Credit office with Evan ArmstrongFour generations of the Armstrong farm family gathered for lunch on Tuesday, delivered and served by staff from the Jacksonville branch office of Farm Credit Services of Illinois. Evan Armstrong, whose name was drawn in the contest to receive the lunch, works for his uncle, David Armstrong, whose shed was the site for Tuesday’s Meal in the Field.

Evan enjoyed the opportunity to have lunch with about 30 members of his family where much of the discussion centered around harvest. Evan is optimistic that yields will be good this harvest season, but said because is has been a wet year, there are spots in the field where yields will be signficantly lower.

He expects another week will make a big difference, but there is no reason to get in a big hurry to harvest a wet crop.
