Monitoring Western bean cutworm

In 2006 Ohio caught three moths in traps, in 2007 that number increased to 7. In 2008 the number increased to 150and then in 2009, the number of adult moths caught in roughly the same number of traps jumped to 550. Andy Michel, OSU Extension entomologist with the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center says that while the data suggests the Western bean cutworm will continue to spread across Ohio, increased feeding damage is also likely.
