Corn development way ahead in Illinois

Crops progressed in Illinois last week with generally good growing weather. The state averaged an inch of rain last week. Corn development is way ahead of last year and the average with 72 percent of the crop silked. Last year at this time only 10 percent had silked. Corn condition, though, went down several points and is now rated 65 percent good to excellent.

Soybeans are 43 percent blooming compared to 10 percent last year. Sixty-two percent of beans are in good to excellent shape.

Farmers are finishing up the wheat harvest and starting to plant double crop soybeans where they can.
