Missouri crop progress still above average

The southern third of Missouri remained fairly dry last week while heavy rains and flooding occurred across the northeast caused some crop damage. Still , the overall progress of the state’s corn crop is above average. Eighty-eight percent of Missouri corn is silked and beyond. Thirty-seven percent is in the dough stage. Corn development took a big jump in the east central, southwest and south central districts this past week.

Corn condition’s the same as the week before, 50 percent good to excellent with nearly 30 percent in fair shape. 21% is poor to very poor.

Soybean progress is ahead of last year and just ahead of normal – 52% is in the blooming stage and beyond…. 18 percent have set pods. Soybean condition is similar to the week before with 47 percent in good to excellent condition, 35 percent is fair.

Cotton setting bolls jumped 33 points from last week. Rice development is over three weeks ahead of normal. Sorghum is just a few days behind – conditions in the northwest and central districts are in the best shape.

The second cutting of alfalfa is 86 percent complete. Third cutting is up 12 points as of Sunday, at 28 percent complete.
