Nebraska’s corn crop helped by heat

Heat and humidity have helped Nebraska’s crops, but the weather is putting stress on livestock with temperatures averaging 90’s across the state.

82% of topsoil and 88% of subsoil have adequate moisture and on average, there were 5.4 days suitable for fieldwork.

According to Nebraska’s National Ag Statistics Service state office, 60% of corn is silking, compared to 49% a year ago and 56% on average, with 2% at the dough making stage, compared to 3% last year and 4% on average, and 84% in good to excellent condition.

51% of soybeans are blooming, compared to 58% last time last year and the five year average of 59% with 7% setting pods, compared to 9% a year ago and 14% on average, with 77% in good to excellent shape.

74% of wheat is ripe, compared to 88% last year and 92% on average, with 44% of the crop harvested, compared to 52% a year ago and 70% on average.

87% of wild hay and 92% of pastures and rangelands are in good to excellent condition.
