Crop conditions worsen in Southeast Missouri

Little rain last week in Missouri made the abnormally dry conditions in southeastern Missouri spread further.  As for crops, the state Ag Statistics office says corn silking is 95 percent complete and 65 percent is in the dough stage, and 26 percent is dented, all just a few days behind normal. Conditions remain the same as the previous week for corn with 49 percent good to excellent.

Soybean blooming is 77 percent with pod setting at 44 percent, both almost a week ahead of normal. Conditions are similar to the week before at 44 percent good to excellent.

Cotton condition slipped from the week before with 48 percent good to excellent. Bolls have set on virtually all the cotton. Rice development remains way ahead of normal with 76 percent headed and conditions continue to improve.

Sorghum is 77 percent headed and beyond and conditions have improved to 62 percent in the good to excellent range.

The second cutting of alfalfa and harvest of other hay are almost complete.

Pasture conditions in the southeast continue to worse.
