Diversity could keep weed resistance at bay

Everyone likes simplicity, said University of Arkansas weed scientist Jason Norsworthy, on a recent media field day sponsored by Bayer CropScience. The problem with simplicity in herbicide chemistry is that weeds evolve to become resistant to some chemistries. Millions of acres, mostly in the South, are infested with resistant weeds. Changes in approach to weed treatments may become necessary to prevent resistance.
