Companies report dicambia weed control progress

BASF and Monsanto say they’ve made “significant progress” toward their launch of next-generation dicamba-based weed control systems for soybeans and cotton. In a news release, the companies say the advancements could be available to farmers worldwide during this decade.

The companies say their tests recently completed at Monsanto’s facility in Monmouth, Illinois, of new formulations over the top of next-generation dicamba-tolerant soybean technology trials had “excellent” results for weed control and dicamba-tolerant crop safety. They say research results at BASF locations had similar positive results.

The two companies reached a joint licensing agreement at the start of 2009 to work on dicamba weed control technologies.
