USDA biomass program in trouble

The future of the USDA’s biomass crop assistance program (BCAP) reportedly is in jeopardy. Funding for the program in the 2011 fiscal year was left out of the Senate budget bill approved this week.

BCAP was created in 2008 to help farmers bring next generation biofuels – from grasses, crop debris, and other plant materials – to market. It pays farmers for those materials.

The USDA released rules for the Biomass Crop Assistance Program just two months ago.
