Precision agriculture more affordable
Cost is becoming less of an issue where precision agriculture is concerned. Matt Darr, an agriculture engineering professor at Iowa State University says prices for RTK systems, the most precise guidance systems, are much lower than they’ve been “providing the opportunity for producers to harness that accuracy with increased gains and reduced fuel use, reduced over-seeding or over-fertilization in fields.” Darr points out that the cost of farming inputs continues to go up, while the cost of guidance technology continues to go down. Even a producer growing 400 acres of corn can afford auto-steer technology, says Darr. “You’re losing money without this product,” he says.
