The Great American Race is going to be a little more “American” this year. As part of a new partnership between NASCAR and American Ethanol, all of the cars in the Daytona 500 will be running E15 fuel made with corn grown in the United States. Jim O’Connell is chief sales officer for NASCAR.
“NASCAR is so very proud to welcome its partners, these hard working family farmers from all over the U.S. who grow the corn that we use in our new racing fuel. We’re equally happy that our sport can play a part in creating jobs and fostering energy independence,” says O’Connell.
In December NASCAR announced it was switching all three of its national series to Sunoco Green E15.
National Corn Growers Association Chairman Darrin Ihnen says it is a great opportunity to spread the message to NASCAR fans about the role American farmers play in the development of ethanol.
“NASCAR’s pioneering decision to make Sunoco Green E15 the official fuel of this dynamic, high-profile sport will educate and raise awareness with millions of people and make them proud to say they use American ethanol,” says Ihnen.
Ihnen adds it will help spread the message about and the use of ethanol which is a growing use for corn, providing a domestic, renewable fuel “that reduces emissions and creates jobs right here at home.”
The NASCAR season opener is February 20th with the 53rd running of the Daytona 500.
I was just on the scenedaily.com website and just saw the Nascar announcement about National Corn Growers being a sponsor for 2011. There are allot of negitive remarks about us as corn growers. We need to educate the consumers about farm subsidies and how much of it does not go directily to the farmer. Please help get the word out. Thanks Doug
