Not a lot of pre-harvest herbicide options

Corn and soybean growers wanting pre-harvest weed suppression won’t find a long list of herbicides to choose from – says a weed specialist with the University of Illinois Extension. Aaron Hager says besides glyphosate for corn and beans there are a handful of other herbicides for each crop.

Hager urges growers to consult product labels for specific information about application, keeping a close eye on crop development. He says not all formulation of 2,4-D, for example, are labeled for pre-harvest applications in corn.

Hager says “contact herbicides usually provide faster weed dry-down than translocated herbicides.”
