Helping to lead the charge against the animal rights movement

Mindy Patterson is the president and co-founder of The Cavalry Group, an organization working to assist livestock producers, agricultural interests and animal owners in the fight against the threat of the radical animal rights movement nationwide.

Patterson is also the director of development for United Horsemen, serves on the board of directors of the Missouri Equine Council, and is communications director for Missouri Federation of Animal Owners.

At the recent meeting of American Agri-Women in Nebraska, we visited with Patterson about her group’s battles with the animal rights movement, which she says is using “incrementalism and emotionalism” to accomplish its goals.

Patterson says one of her biggest concerns presently is the so-called “PUPS” bill—the Puppy Uniform Protection and Safety Act—in Congress, and the potential impact that the bill’s passage could have on other animal industries.

  • Mindy Patterson is correct to be extremely concerned about the animal rights agenda and activities. In the nineties the HSUS sued the USFWS and changed legislation regarding exotic birds. They sued again in the 2000 against the USDA to force further changes re exotic birds. HSUS forced thru the Amendment 2 in California….which isn’t even based on any animal husbandry science. There is no question that these animal rights organizations pose a serious threat to all animal industries in the US…and even on the international scene where they attempt to impose their agenda.

Perhaps some benefits can be obtained for farmers and cattlemen if their organizations work with the National Animal Interest Alliance Trust which takes legislative action against state and federal animal rights supported legislation. See http://www.naiatrust.org Together we can be more effective if all animal interests support each other in this long term fight against the animal rights agenda of no animal use.
