Grassley discusses concerns with House farm bill draft

Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley, a member of the Senate Ag Committee, has some concerns with the draft farm bill released by the House Ag Committee.

Grassley is disappointed that the House Ag Committee’s draft does nothing to address payment limits for large farms.   In fact, Grassley says, the House plan would actually increase the payment limit from current law.

Grassley is also concerned with the proposed counter-cyclical program contained in the House draft.  He says it appears to be the kind of program that will have farmers making decisions based upon farm programs rather than responding to market signals.

Here are comments Grassley made during his weekly conference call with ag reporters on Tuesday morning.
