Wykes urges Illnois growers to think ‘beyond the elevator’
The soybean grower’s number one customer is the farmer raising poultry and livestock. That point is driven home by Bill Wykes, Chairman of the Illinois Soybean Association. He was getting in front of as many growers as he could at the Illinois State Fair Ag Day recently reminding them that animal agriculture is responsible for much of their market.
Realizing that, it should be no surprise that soybean growers help fund meat and poultry export promotions and animal agriculture research. Likewise when animal agriculture is under attack, “yeah, it’s something that attacks us, too,” said Wykes.
