Missouri farmer says it’s about to get serious

It’s been relentless rain in much of the Corn Belt this week. North Central Missouri Farmer Ron McNeall talked with Brownfield about it.

“Obviously, we’ve been wet all week. I think I’ve had around five inches of rain for the week and it’s still raining. For one thing, we have delayed planting. I mean, we really got in, I guess, about eight days of farming so far this spring. Really good running – we had one week of real good running.”

His property is at the confluence of the Chariton, Grand and Missouri Rivers and with rain like this, they get it all.

McNeall says things are “on the verge of serious” as farm fields in the river bottoms are catching that water and it could get worse.

Still, he has 90 percent of his corn in.  About 20% of his soybeans.
