Illinois farmers seeing cool, moist conditions this past week

Illinois farmers are benefitting from cool temperatures and rainfall over corn and soybean crops.  A few areas still need more rain, while others had too much this past week.

Corn conditions, as of Sunday, were rated 64% good to excellent.  Nine percent of the corn crop remains in poor to very poor condition.  Corn silked is 85%, down from last year, but almost even with the five-year average.

Seventy-one percent of soybeans are in good to excellent condition.  Soybeans blooming are 65%, lower than the 72% average.  Only 16-percent of beans are setting pods, much lower than the five-year average of 33%.

The majority of pastures are in good to excellent condition.
