Six new records at Sale of Champions
One of the last big events to take place on Sunday, August 4, the final day of the 2013 Ohio State Fair was the 46th annual Sale of Champions and when it was over, 6 new sale records were set.
Record prices were paid for the Grand Champion Swiss Cheese, Grand Champion Turkey, Grand Champion Meat Goat, Reserve Grand Champion Meat Chickens and the Reserve Grand Champion Barrow.
The sale generated a total of $344,700, with $264,700 of the sale total going to the Ohio State Fair’s Youth Reserve Program which funds other State Fair youth programs and scholarships.
“It covers the gamut of all 4-H projects, not just livestock,” said Auctioneer Johnny Regula of Ostrander. “I mean it gets into sewing and cooking, woodworking, photography, you name it, if there’s a category they are eligible for these scholarships and that’s what’s wonderful about, in Ohio that we take care of them out of the Sale of Champions.”
