Getting involved is the key

From the lack of a Farm Bill to concerns about daunting regulations, what can farmers do to make a difference?

President of the National Association of Wheat Growers Bing Von Bergen says it’s simple – they just need to get involved.

And, he adds they can start locally.  “Whether it is Farm Bureau or their wheat growers association, or corn or soy,” he says.  “Whatever they have in their immediate area.  They need to get involved.  You really do make a difference.”

And Von Bergen tells Brownfield it doesn’t matter where you farm or how many acres your farm.  “I’m a farmer from central Montana,” he says.  “I never believed I would actually be talking to people and interjecting change.  You affect change by getting involved.  You’ve just got to get involved.”

Von Bergen has served as president of NAWG since February 2013.
