Unveiling The Big Cheese

It took over 200 combined man hours to complete – but earlier this week The Cheese Lady, Sarah Kaufmann unveiled this year’s cheese carving at the Indiana State Fair.  The theme this year, Powered by Dairy.  “Surprise,” she says.  “It’s all about the nutrition of dairy products.  But this year – it’s ‘power up your body with dairy’.  I have carved a bunch of kids that are physically fit that are playing baseball, basketball, and dancing and bike riding – they are all drinking milk and eating yogurt and cheese to snack and refuel and power up their bodies.”

The cheese sculpture is carved out of over 1,500 pounds of cheese.  Deb Osza, with the American Dairy Association of Indiana says this is a great way for consumers to see the benefits of dairy to our body.  “We have so many wonderful foods like milk and cheese that provide the nutrients we need for strong bones and healthy muscles,” she says.
