Getting Duracade corn into proper channels ‘extremely important’

Gavilon Grain is to continue providing marketing opportunities for farmers who plant Agrisure Duracade in 2015.

“What Gavilon is there for is actually a resource to help them find the proper markets that are non-export markets,” said Bruce Battles, a technical crop manager with Syngenta.

Agrisure Duracade is Syngenta’s corn rootworm control technology approved in the U.S., although not yet approved for export to China.

Through an agreement recently renewed between Syngenta and Gavilon, farmers will receive consultative services through Gavilon to help them appropriately market their 2015 Agrisure Duracade grain through a network of accepting destinations.

“It is extremely important that we do our best job of stewarding the grain and taking it to approved elevator locations or feeding it on the farm, one of the two,” Battles told Brownfield Ag News.

Gavilon will help connect qualifying growers with elevators, feedlots, feed mills and other appropriate destinations that accept Agrisure Duracade corn. Also, designated Gavilon locations will accept grain containing Agrisure Duracade in 2015; however, farmers are not required to sell their grain to Gavilon.

“Just because we’re partnering with Gavilon doesn’t mean they have to sell their grain through a Gavilon facility,” said Battles.  “If they can find locally accepting locations on their own, that is great.  Gavilon is there to help them find those locations for any of that [Duracade] grain that is stored in their bin.”

Some growers have the option of feeding Agrisure Duracade on the farm.
