The Minnesota Department of Agriculture and the USDA Farm Service Agency will host a series of meetings in northern Minnesota beginning in early April to explain programs focusing on livestock losses due to wolves, birds of prey and weather.

Presenters will explain, compare, and contrast the state and federal livestock loss programs. Attendees will be given information on the record-keeping expectations and claims processes for the two programs.

The Minnesota Department of Ag also offers a wolf depredation program that compensates farmers and ranchers for livestock losses from wolves, but funds have been depleted because an increase in claims. Governor Dayton’s budget proposal seeks to double these funds.

For more information on the meetings, contact your local FSA office.
