88% of Illinois corn planted

Corn and soybean planting progressed rapidly around Illinois last week. Also, temperatures were warmer than normal and precipitation was above average.

88% of corn is planted, compared to 64% on average, and 42% of the crop has emerged, compared to 36% on average.

33% of soybeans are planted, compared to the five year average of 19%.

36% of winter wheat has headed, compared to 39% on average. 57% of the crop is in good to excellent condition.

4% of the first cutting of alfalfa is complete, compared to 9% on average.

80% of Illinois’ pasture and rangelands are in good to excellent shape.
