Illinois corn mostly good to excellent

Rain continues to hinder fieldwork in southern Illinois, while dry conditions in other areas allowed soybean and sorghum planting as well as cutting and baling hay.

Topsoil moisture is 98 percent adequate to surplus.

Most of the corn crop is emerged and is 78 percent good to excellent.

Illinois soybeans are 88 percent planted, a little behind last year but five percent ahead of the five-year average. The soybean crop is 74 percent good to excellent.

Winter wheat is almost all headed and is 82 percent fair to good.  It’s seven percent excellent.

Illinois pastures are 83 percent good to excellent.
