USDA raises winter wheat production estimate

The USDA has increased its 2015 U.S. winter wheat production estimate. This year’s winter crop is projected at 1.505 billion bushels, up 2% from the May guess and 9% larger than the 2014 total. Average yield is expected to be 44.5 bushels per acre, compared to 43.5 a month ago and 42.6 a year ago. Harvested area is seen at 33.838 million acres, compared to 32.304 million last year.

By type, hard red winter is pegged at 887.461 million bushels, 4% more than last month, soft red winter is seen at 413.750 million, less than 1% below the May estimate, and white winter is expected to be 203.861 million bushels, slightly more than a month ago.

Wheat production for Brownfield states:

Illinois: 37.62 million bushels, compared to 44.89 million in 2014; average yield of 66 bushels per acre, compared to 67 a month ago and 67 a year ago; harvested area of 570,000 acres, compared to 670,000 last year

Indiana: 22.57 million bushels, compared to 25.46 million in 2014; average yield of 74 bushels per acre, compared to 74 a month ago and 76 a year ago; harvested area of 305,000 acres, compared to 335,000 last year

Michigan: 38.76 million bushels, compared to 35.89 million in 2014; average yield of 76 bushels per acre, compared to 76 a month ago and 74 a year ago; harvested area of 510,000 acres, compared to 485,000 last year

Missouri: 43.2 million bushels, compared to 42.92 million in 2014; average yield of 60 bushels per acre, compared to 60 a month ago and 58 a year ago; harvested area of 720,000 acres, compared to 740,000 last year

Nebraska: 61.32 million bushels, compared to 71.05 million in 2014; average yield of 42 bushels per acre, compared to 40 a month ago and 49 a year ago; harvested area of 1.46 million acres, compared to 1.45 million last year

Ohio: 38.69 million bushels, compared to 40.33 million in 2014; average yield of 73 bushels per acre, compared to 70 a month ago and 74 a year ago; harvested area of 530,000 acres, compared to 545,000 last year

South Dakota: 8.84 million bushels, compared to 11.44 million in 2014; average yield of 52 bushels per acre, compared to 52 a month ago and 52 a year ago; harvested area of 1.1 million acres, compared to 1.08 million last year

Wisconsin: 16.33 million bushels, compared to 16.25 million in 2014; average yield of 71 bushels per acre, compared to 71 a month ago and 65 a year ago; harvested area of 230,000 acres, compared to 250,000 last year
