Illinois weather stretches emergency services

Recovery continues from storms this week that rolled through Quincy, Illinois, and into rural Adams County, Illinois in the far western part of the state.  Adams County Emergency Management Agency Director John Simon tells Brownfield that weather related events have been so frequent this year that they seem to run together.

“It feels like we’ve been in a mode of response for several weeks just getting storm after storm and we had flash flooding events over the weekend that had a large effect out in rural areas,” Simon told Brownfield Ag News, taking a rare break from overseeing recovery efforts in Adams County.  “We had a number of roads closed; almost every road had some sort of standing water on it in some fashion.”

Straight line winds Monday took out trees and power lines in Quincy and surrounding areas, according to Simon, but in spite of bad weather stretching emergency services, he says people reach out to help others who are in need.

“I’m very proud of that fact of what we see here in Adams County is neighbor helping neighbor,” said Simon.  “That makes the system work.”
