Minnesota chicken and egg numbers decline

Egg production in Minnesota dropped 21 percent from May to June and is 24 percent lower than last year.

According to the latest Chicken and Eggs report from USDA, the state produced 190 million eggs in June.

The average number of all layers on hand during the month was down 16 percent from May and off 23 percent from 2014.

The 8.4 million layers marked the lowest inventory since records began in 1994.

Eggs per 100 layers during the month of June were down six percent from the previous month and two percent lower than last year.
