Minnesota egg production in July 26 percent lower than year ago

Minnesota egg production in July is down more than 25 percent from last year.

USDA’s Chicken and Eggs report shows the state produced 201 million eggs during the month, a huge drop from 2014. However, it was six percent above the June figure.

The average number of layers on hand in Minnesota were the lowest since inventory records began in 1994, at 8.31 million.

Eggs per 100 layers did increase seven percent from the prior month, but was down one percent from last year.

Nationally, July egg production is 10 percent lower than 2014.
