Forest management begins with a walk in the woods
Steve McGinnis with the Ohio Division of Forestry says forest management begins with a walk in the woods.
As a service forester, McGinnis spends most days in the woods, helping woodland owners determine what it is they hope to accomplish.
“I want them to be thinking about working towards those goals and actually getting on the ground work done by removal of undesirable species or non-native species,” McGinnis said. “Just trying to promote healthy growth by mimicking nature, what generally takes place anyway.”
No matter if the goal is timber, or wildlife, the service forester tells Brownfield a good forest management plan is key to meeting those goals.
