Missouri corn grower: Funds for ethanol infrastructure ‘good news’

Missouri’s been awarded nearly $3 million for ethanol infrastructure expansion.  The federal grant will fund the installation of as many as 171 blender pumps allowing drivers to dispense gasoline blended with as much as 85 percent ethanol.  Missouri Corn Merchandising Council Chairman Gary Porter, who grows corn in the northern part of the state near Mercer, says added availability of various blends of the corn-based renewable fuel is good for business.

“The price of corn today is below production costs, so these are all things that are really good news for the Missouri corn farmers,” Porter told Brownfield Ag News.

There are several Missouri retailers that are participating in the infrastructure expansion.  Porter says it comes down to a matter of consumer choice.

“Do you want to go with 100 percent foreign oil, or do you want to try to get some home-grown biofuel, clean-burning oil from right here in the state of Missouri?” he said.

The blender pumps also dispense mid-level ethanol blends such as E15, E20 and E30.
