USDA has awarded Minnesota more than $1.5 million in grants through the Rural Energy for America Program (REAP).

State Development Director Colleen Landkamer announced the funding will go towards 34 projects to help rural small businesses and agricultural producers in the state reduce energy use and costs.

She says more rural business owners and ag producers are incorporating renewable energy and energy efficient measures, contributing to the economic sustainability of rural America.

Congress created the REAP program in the 2002 Farm Bill, and the USDA says it has helped finance nearly 800 renewable energy projects in Minnesota since 2009.
