New tool to help farmers with record keeping

A tool to help farmers comply with new recordkeeping requirements has been developed in Ohio.

A county Farm Bureau in Ohio and a local Soil and Water Conservation District have developed a mobile app to help farmers comply with two new state laws that require them to document when and where nutrients are applied.

Knox County Farm Bureau President Trish Levering says an important feature of the app allows farmers to capture weather conditions.

“It allows them to capture the weather forecast,” Levering said. “For commercial fertilizer at 12 hours and for manure its 24 hours and it is compliant with Senate Bill 1 and Senate Bill 150.”

She says the app is easy to use which is important.

“That was one of our goals, we didn’t want people to input a lot of data from their devices at the edge of the field, we wanted them to be able to record the application and get to work and we think we’ve accomplished that,” said the Knox County Farm Bureau President.

The Ohio Nutrient Management Record Keeper (ONMRK) app has been recognized by the American Farm Bureau Federation as a County Activities of Excellence winner.

The free mobile app is available at Google Play and the App Store.
