Cattlemen taking successes to San Diego

Colin Woodall, NCBA (3)_webCattle producers have some recent successes to celebrate at the Cattlemen’s Convention in San Diego.

Colin Woodall, NCBA Vice President of Government Affairs, says cattlemen scored a major win in the 2015 Dietary Guidelines…

“You know a year ago when the recommendations were released, beef was not on the center of the plate, we were completely off of it,” Woodall said. “And now we have the final guidelines and through our efforts and working with Secretary Vilsack we are still very much a part of the overall statement on a healthy dietary pattern and we are back in the middle of the plate again and that’s a good victory and one that we can all be proud of.”

Woodall tells Brownfield another high stakes win was the repeal of Country of Origin Labeling (COOL).

“Not only were we worried about Canadian retaliation and Mexican retaliation because of COOL, but we were also worried about USDA continuing a program that just wasn’t working for us as cattle producers,” said Woodall. “So to be able to show that as a victory at the end of the year was another one we’ll be talking about in San Diego.

Brownfield’s Ken Anderson will be covering the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association Convention this week.
