Minnesota DNR releases latest buffer map

Minnesota Farm Bureau is urging landowners to thoroughly examine the latest DNR buffer map.

Associate director of public policy Cole Rupprecht says the new version reflects more than 3,000 change requests following the initial release last March.

“From landowners, or drainage authorities or personnel across the state.  And of those comments and change requests that were submitted, 2,100 of those were made into updates on that map.”

He tells Brownfield landowners should once again look over the buffer map to ensure its accuracy.

“Once they look at the map they may realize something isn’t labeled as a public water or public drainage ditch.  Or they find things that are labeled incorrectly.  So it’s important to get on the DNR website (and) pull up their interactive map.”

Rupprecht says the DNR is asking that comments and change requests be submitted to local Soil and Water Conservation Districts.

The next buffer map update is expected in early 2017.
