Controlling weeds with challenging field conditions

Harvest conditions in parts of the Corn Belt aren’t much better than they were at planting this year and that’s creating some additional weed control challenges this fall.

Shawna Hubbard, with Corteva Agriscience, says as farmers begin to plan for the 2020 growing season, one of the areas of focus from a weed control perspective is keeping an accurate record of what fields looked like in 2019.  “So that we can write a weed control plan and prescription to specifically address those weeds,” she says.  “While we’re trying to limit the spread of weed seed when moving around equipment this fall.”

Hubbard tells Brownfield the difficult planting and growing seasons have farmers under pressure this fall, but that doesn’t mean they should relax their weed control efforts.
